| What it is: Liposuction is designed to remove unwanted excess body fat to improve a patient’s body contour and appearance. For women, the areas most commonly treated are the hip and thigh areas "saddlebags" and the anterior abdomen. For men, areas most commonly treated are the lateral flanks "love handles", the breasts and the anterior abdomen. Liposuction can also be performed on both upper and lower limbs as well as the face and neck areas. Liposuction is not a remedy for generalized obesity. It is best suited for localized areas of fat deposition which are otherwise refractory to diet and exercise. Typically liposuction results in improved appearance, self-confidence, and self-esteem. Procedure: Liposuction is performed by inserting long narrow suction canulas through minimal stab wound incisions. These are placed in strategic locations to minimize post-operative visibility. Dr. Murtagh, a board certified plastic surgeon with over 25 years of experience, is a body contouring specialist in Florida. Where it is Done: Liposuction in Naples, Florida is usually performed on an out-patient basis in Dr. Murtagh’s Naples office or a nearby day-surgery center. Whether you reside in the Naples area or prefer to come to a tropical paradise for your surgery and convalescence, you can depend upon Dr. Murtagh’s skills as a body contouring specialist in Florida. What to Expect: Placement of drains is rare. Small visible scars will result from this procedure. Small stab wound incisions are placed in strategic areas so that visibility of post-operative scars is minimal. We recommend wearing a post operative compressive garment for approximately 2-3 weeks post-operatively. This helps the over-lying skin retract more smoothly. Anesthesia and Medication: Liposuction does not necessarily require general anesthesia where the patient is put to sleep. General anesthesia is recommended for larger treatment areas. Recovery: Most patients can resume vigorous exercise in approximately 1-2 weeks post operatively.
