| What it is: A cosmetic face lift is performed to elevate sagging facial tissue and eliminate facial lines and wrinkles. It is performed to give the face a younger, more vibrant appearance. In general, a face lift corrects sagging facial skin and muscles, and removes excess fat. It also reduces frown lines and wrinkles, and restores firmness to create a more youthful, rested and vibrant appearance. Elevated facial contours and improved facial tone restore a more youthful appearance. A face lift is best performed on adult men and women who feel that their outward facial aging no longer reflects the inner youth and vigor they feel physically and emotionally. As a restorative surgery, a face lift does not change your fundamental appearance and can not completely stop the aging process. You will continue to age naturally, but aging will progress from the more youthful version of yourself that has been restored by the face lift. Typically a face lift affords greater self confidence and self-esteem. Where it is Done: Face lift surgery can be performed on an out-patient basis. What to Expect: Placement of drains is rare. Although there will be a visible scar with a face lift, it is not readily apparent. Incisions are placed in strategic areas so that post-operative visibility is minimal. Anesthesia and Medication: A face lift does not always require general anesthesia where the patient is put to sleep. This will depend upon the amount of facial tissue to be treated and the length of anticipated surgery. Recovery: Most patients have recovered well enough to return to the work place in approximately two weeks. For social engagements, a three week convalescence is recommended. Most patients can resume vigorous exercise in approximately 1-2 weeks post-operatively.
